Claude Code just adopted AGENTS.md — the agent config file war is over before most teams picked a side.

Claude Code falls back to AGENTS.md, ending the agent-config split platform change
Simon Willison, HN Front Page
As of Claude Code 2.1.277, if a folder has no CLAUDE.md, Claude reads AGENTS.md instead — built on the same memory-file loading path, so imports and nested-directory resolution behave identically. AGENTS.md was the cross-vendor convention (Codex, Cursor, Jules, Amp); CLAUDE.md was the holdout that forced teams to maintain duplicate instruction files or symlink hacks. Both Simon Willison and a 376-point HN thread flagged it within hours, which is the real signal: this is a de facto standardization moment, not a changelog line. What to do: if you maintain symlinks or a sync script between CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md, delete them and keep AGENTS.md as the single source. Note the precedence — CLAUDE.md still wins where present, so a stale CLAUDE.md will silently shadow your new AGENTS.md. Audit repos for orphaned CLAUDE.md files before you assume the fallback is active.

Tencent BrowserSkill drives your real logged-in browser from any agent new tool
GitHub Trending
A CLI plus extension that lets shell-capable agents operate your actual browser session — authenticated, with your cookies — instead of spawning a clean Playwright profile that hits login walls. It's explicitly designed to not hijack your active tab, which is the failure mode that made prior browser-agent tooling unusable during real work. Bookmark for any workflow blocked on auth-gated sites.

MiniMax Code goes open source new tool
r/LocalLLaMA
MiniMax released its coding agent stack publicly, adding another self-hostable option alongside the Qwen and Claude Code-alike ecosystem. Worth a read of the harness design even if you don't adopt it — open coding agents are where scaffolding techniques leak out fastest. Evaluate against your existing harness before switching anything.

Rust security team warns of targeted campaign against crates maintainers emerging signal
Simon Willison
The crates.io security team confirmed an ongoing campaign specifically targeting rust-lang members — social engineering aimed at people with publish rights, not at the registry itself. If you publish crates or depend on small-maintainer crates in an AI toolchain, this is your prompt to verify 2FA on publish tokens and pin dependencies. Maintainer accounts are now the attack surface.

Ptacek's rule: use an LLM as copyeditor, never as ghostwriter workflow
Simon Willison
Thomas Ptacek lays out a concrete discipline for writing with LLMs, anchored on "you may not use a single word an LLM suggests to you." The model critiques structure and flags weak passages; you write every word. Directly portable to docs, RFCs, and commit messages — and a usable house rule if your team is arguing about AI-written prose.

Open horizontal Jev model trained with RLCD beats the Jev benchmarks research to practice
r/LocalLLaMA
An independent dev trained an open-weights horizontal model for the Jev architecture using RLCD and published model, repo, benchmarks, and an HF space together — the full reproducibility package. Jev has now surfaced three times in a week from different angles, moving from vendor announcement to community reimplementation. Worth reading the RLCD setup even if you skip the weights.

Hugging Face may be moving against abliterated models platform change
r/LocalLLaMA
Community reports suggest HF is tightening treatment of abliterated (refusal-removed) model uploads. If any part of your pipeline pulls an abliterated checkpoint by repo ID at build time, that's a single-point dependency on a policy that could change. Mirror the weights you actually ship on.

768GB of VRAM for less than one RTX 6000 emerging signal
r/LocalLLaMA
Another entry in the week-long local-capex thread: a build reaching 768GB aggregate VRAM under the price of a single RTX 6000, via older multi-GPU density rather than new silicon. The recurring lesson is that memory capacity per dollar and raw throughput per dollar are now separately optimizable — pick based on whether you're serving or batch-processing.

TencentCloud/Octop: self-hosted multi-user, multi-agent assistant
A self-hostable assistant built for teams rather than a single operator, with multi-agent routing baked in. The multi-user dimension is the rare part — most open agent stacks assume one developer, one machine. Link →
inclusionAI/Realtime-Venus lands on Hugging Face
An open realtime model from a lab that doesn't get newsletter coverage, arriving as the realtime/voice path becomes the contested layer. Watch whether latency numbers hold outside the demo. Link →
coder/coder repositions as sandboxes for devs and their agents
Coder's trending blurb now reads "secure environments for developers and their agents" — an established dev-environment product retargeting at agent isolation. A signal that agent sandboxing is becoming a procurement category, not a script. Link →

agents.md TRENDING
2 mentions across Simon Willison, HN Front Page
First appearance, and it arrives on two independent sources simultaneously with a 376-point HN thread. Anthropic adopting a competitor-originated convention is the strongest available evidence that agent instruction files have standardized. Expect tooling to start assuming AGENTS.md by default.
qwen3.8 TRENDING
2 mentions across r/LocalLLaMA
Seen every day for a week. Today's substance is the Bonsai 2 entry in the ongoing quantization comparison; the rest is enthusiasm. The model itself is no longer news — the quant-selection methodology around it is where the remaining signal lives.
ternary quantization TRENDING
1 mentions across r/LocalLLaMA
Hit three sources yesterday and continues today with Prism-ML Bonsai 2 being folded into a standing Qwen3.8 quant comparison. The shift from announcement to head-to-head measurement is the tell that ternary is entering practical use rather than paper territory.
jev TRENDING
1 mentions across r/LocalLLaMA
Third appearance in four days, and the first from an independent implementer rather than the originating lab or a history post. Community reimplementation with published benchmarks is the standard path from vendor architecture to something you can actually build on.
local hardware capex TRENDING
2 mentions across r/LocalLLaMA
Five of the last seven days. Today's 768GB build plus M5 Ultra/M6 benchmarks keep the same theme: the community is actively price-discovering VRAM capacity separately from compute. Useful as a market read, low direct actionability unless you're buying.
